DR. KAREN FRANGOS - PT, ND
Teacher
Dr. Karen Frangos received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1983 from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. During the next ten years, she gained experience as a Physical Therapist in teaching hospitals, for a PT-owned private practice, then in her own private practice within a tennis & fitness club, focusing primarily on athletic injuries. That lead to extensive work with elite athletes of the Boston Marathon and some of the Boston Celtics, as well as many amateur athletes from multiple sports, including tennis, softball, soccer, rowing, golf, and triathlons.
Dr. Frangos received her Naturopathic Doctorate with Honors in 1997 from National College of Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM, now National University of Natural Medicine) in Portland, Oregon. She then completed two years of Residency at NCNM before opening her private practice within a fitness club in NW Portland.
After several years as full-time Assistant Professor in the Physical Medicine Department at NCNM, Dr. Frangos transitioned to Maui to begin a new life by the ocean, with a private practice that focused on sports medicine & orthopedics, adrenal & thyroid hormone imbalances, natural approaches to menopause management, and nutrition with blood type science as a foundation.
Since arriving on Maui in 2010, Dr. Frangos has been President of Hawaii Society of Naturopathic Physicians, and now serves as a member of the Board of Directors for American Association of Naturopathic Physicians. She Chairs two AANP Committees: State & Federal Affairs Committee in which she assists in directing annual legislative efforts related to Naturopathic Medicine in Washington, DC; and the Convention Committee, responsible for the selection of Speakers for AANP annual CE convention. Dr Frangos also actively participates in the AANP Committee for Diversity & Inclusion.
Dr Frangos closed her private practice in October 2017, and began teaching at Maui School of Therapeutic Massage by September 2019. She currently teaches Anatomy & Physiology, Therapeutic Exercise, and Neuromuscular Technique, in addition to some of the Clinical Practice Skills & Assessment classes. With her many years of clinical experience and medical school teaching experience, Dr Frangos brings a wealth of knowledge to share, including over 35 years of manual therapy skills.
Karen also volunteers on Maui with NOAA’s Hawaiian Monk Seal Response Team and Marine Mammal Stranding Team, Hawaii Wildlife Fund’s Hawksbill Sea Turtle Project, and Pacific Whale Foundation’s annual Humpback Whale Count.
Bianca & Christopher Obrochta, LMT's
Clinic Administrator & Director
Christopher is a MSTM graduate from 2006 and met Bianca during his Massage Certification. After graduating, Christopher & Bianca traveled the world raising a family for over 10 years before settling on Maui, where all the magic began. Our families are from Europe and Polynesia, respectively, along with family in both North America and the Hawaiian Islands. Our goal was to raise our growing family in both of our unique cultures, Highlander & Islander, our native languages were each our first and spoke 5 languages between ourselves but not one of them together. We were able to communicate through our body language, emotions and intuition. Just as one experiences through bodywork! Along our repeated cycle of travel between Europe, North America & Polynesia, we started our own practices in foreign countries and worked at resort spas from all of Aspen's exclusive 5 star / 5 diamond ski resorts to the beaches of Hawaii's legendary resorts. Along the way, recognized for our bodywork and professionalism, winning awards for an Aspen resort as the 2019 Best Wellness Spa in North & South American. Realizing the knowledge and experience gained from bodywork and how it completely changed our lives and were able to live out our dreams becoming a better version of ourselves. In 2019, we returned to Maui and grateful to be apart of MSTM once again!
